Hazel Murray
I have been living in Tuscany for almost two decades... having previously been a Weather Presenter on Sky News for twelve years. Although I have always been fairly artistic, (pottery, silversmithing, garden design for Chelsea Flower Show), I didn’t really start painting until I arrived here. A friend was starting up her watercolour classes, and I joined, and the rest, as they say, is history! I paint most days, sometimes in situ, en plein air, and sometimes, especially for my more abstract pieces, in the comfort of my home with the company of my four dogs and two cats!
I occasionally use acrylic, but basically I love my watercolours – unforgiving and unpredictable – but with a wonderful delicacy and translucence - frustrating but fabulous! My paintings tend to fall into one of three categories… Castles and Ruins – although inspired by reality, these are often abstract; Landscapes and Flowers – these are generally, but not always, figurative; and Waterscapes, often painted there and then, by the lake, sometimes preceded by a swim! Why do I paint? No idea, I just NEED to, I am passionate about it, and I see inspiration everywhere I look.
By the way, I welcome enquiries about commissions.
If you are an animal lover please take a look at my book on Amazon... all proceeds to my local stray dogs' kennels, so far more than E2000 given. Covid Chronicles - Tails from Tuscany

"Hazel has exhibited her work in two solo exhibitions in Cortona, Italy, and has also shown her paintings in a group exhibition in Rome."
For many years I was painting simply for my own satisfaction, but a few years ago I was persuaded that I should do an exhibition. Since then, I have had two exhibitions in Cortona, and one of my paintings was selected for an exhibition in homage to local artist Gino Severini. In addition, one of my composition ‘Ferocious Flowers’ was selected for the Patchings Art Centre Exhibition a few years ago. I have had paintings in an exhibition in Rome, as well as currently in Castel di Sangro, Abruzzo. My pieces can be seen in houses in the UK, Belgium and even America. Finally, I have had paintings selected for an upcoming exhibition in northern France in October… details to be revealed very soon!
